Complying with the standards OSHA sets is required and can also be quite costly if not followed, both in fines and possibly injury or loss of life. OSHA sets these standards to improve safety throughout all facilities across the United States.
Inspection Types
There are two main types of crane inspections, frequent and periodic.
- Frequent inspections are performed on a daily or monthly basis and cover your more basic mechanical aspects of the crane, as well as the limit switches.
- Periodic inspections must be completed at least once per year or after 6 months of non-use. These inspections are far more in-depth and include components such as brakes, electrical wiring, sheaves, bearings, drum, wheels, and loose bolts.
